Amendment to Occupational Health and Safety Regulations for Positions Equipped with Computer Monitors

On November 2, 2023, in the Journal of Laws, a regulation of the Minister of Family and Social Policy of October 18, 2023, amending the regulation on occupational health and safety for positions equipped with computer monitors, was announced.

The regulation implements Council Directive 90/270/EEC of May 29, 1990, concerning minimum requirements for the safety and health of workers at work with display screen equipment (the fifth detailed directive within the meaning of Article 16(1) of Directive 89/391/EEC).

Regulations impose an obligation on companies to provide employees with glasses or contact lenses for vision correction. Such an obligation did not exist before.

Can an office worker request a more comfortable chair?

The regulation specifies the minimum requirements that office furniture, used by employees, should meet – the type of desks, tables, and chairs. Chairs should include, among other things, adjustable armrests. Upon request of the employee, the workplace should also be equipped with a footrest.

Time for implementation of changes

According to the regulation, employers, within 6 months from the effective date of this regulation, will adjust workstations equipped with computer monitors created before the effective date of this regulation to the minimum safety and health requirements and ergonomics specified in this regulation.
