The deadline for implementing occupational health and safety (OHS) changes has passed

Reminder that as of November 17, 2023, changes to the regulation on occupational health and safety at workplaces equipped with visual display units (VDUs) have come into effect. We covered the changes here:

Key changes include:

  1. Workstations equipped with VDUs now officially include those with laptops.
  2. Requirement to provide a separate desktop monitor or laptop stand (for users using laptops for more than half of their daily working hours).
  3. Requirement to provide additional keyboard and mouse.
  4. Requirement for an office chair with adjustable armrests (previously, it was sufficient to have armrests).
  5. Removed specific chair adjustment parameter values. The regulation now states that chairs must have certain functions, without specifying the exact range of centimeters for adjustment.
  6. Explicit requirement to provide contact lenses, rather than just referring to corrective eyeglasses.

Employers were required to implement these changes within 6 months from the date the regulation came into force, i.e., by May 17, 2024. This should prompt occupational health and safety services to review current regulations and practically assess solutions to improve workplace safety and hygiene.
